Having diabetes myself, I think that your cat must be suffering without the shots.
It feels horrible to have a high sugar.

One of my cats had two shots a couple of days ago and never flinched.
It’s gotta be the shots or put him down.It is unfair to have him live in pain – the way he is doing now.

I don’t think so. You’d have to give him the shots to prolong his life and make him feel better. If you don’t, he probably won’t last much longer. In cats, you probably won’t ever cure the diabetes. He’s old, too. However, with the proper meds he may live another 2 or 3 years.

There are prescription diabetic cat foods. Ask your vet. But let me ask you a question. If you were diabetic, and needed insulin shots, would you find it cruel to give yourself an insulin shot? Or would you look for possibly untested home remedies that may be dangerous?
