My feelings are that there is way to much money being made off of diabetes and other diseases and you are not going to see a cure, even if they really find one. They keep dangling the carrot in front of us, but I doubt if we will ever get one. They just tell you about a cure "in the working" every now and then so we think they are still looking for one

Texande2002 ….you are so wrong. Even if you control type 2 with diet and exercise (which many people do) you still have the disease. And usually later in life you have to take meds again. You should go to some educational classes and learn the truth.

There are some very promising studies currently underway adopting similar approaches of, correcting the autoimmune problem together with regenerating Beta cell growth. Faustman is probably the best known using BCG vaccine but also DiaKine using LSF in combination with INGAP and also Dr Terry Strom of Harvard University. See the links below in ’sources’.
In fact there are quite a few researchers with similar approaches. I do believe that any resistance that there might have been in the past to the possibility of reversing type 1 is now on the back-foot, due to the weight of evidence that has now shown this to be achievable. Hopefully this will speed progress to a viable cure.
In the absence of a full ‘reversal/cure’ encapsulated cell transplants have demonstrated that dangerous immunosuppressants (such as used in the Edmonton Protocol) are not necessary, the encapsulation system (alginate) hides the cells from the immune system but allows nutrients in, to support the cell and also allows insulin to be secreted. The work being done by LCT in New Zealand is possibly the most advanced and promising in this field (see below).

One closing comment regarding the reply from texandc2002: I have rarely read such utter Bull from such an ill-informed idiot in my life, he obviously knows squat about diabetes type 2 and even less about type 1. texandc2002 should keep his prejudiced and ignorant comments to himself. People like this should be barred!

Well, there is a partial cure, The Edmonton Protocol, being done in Canada. That means that it has nothing to do with the American FDA. The procedure is going through tests, it takes years to prove that the diabetes is not coming back, and that the procedure is safe for everyone. I understand that it takes the cells of 2 cadavers, so the unwillingness of many people to donate their parts after death also has much to do with the slowness of this becoming mainstream. We just have to believe that the researchers, in many countries other that USA, are working hard on this, and one day, we will get our cure. Until then, we have to take good care of ourselves, so that we don't have too many complications left over, once the diabetes is gone.

I agree the cost of all that you say is high. Stem cell therapy is what is being looked at for the cure of type 1 diabetes.but it is still in its raw stage. success cannot be guaranteed.also there is morality problem as to where should the stem cells be obtained from.i think you research more about stem cell therapy on the net and then ask your doctor if it is done in the USA.

"Type 2" is a discrace that people let themselves get so unhealthy by their eating habits, that they get to be type 2 diabetics. Its been shown that over 50% of type 2 diabetics could eliminate the need for meds if they lost 10% of their body weight.

Type 1 is similar…as it too is affected by diet…but due to some circumstances (im thinking vaccines) the body is somehow incapable of regulating its insulin. More studies are coming out that show a diet high in sugar causes high insulin levels..and after a time the receptors begin to not singnal properly. A recnt study demonstrated that if you ocasionally fast a day at a time…the bodies insulin receptors improve function.
Having type #1…consult your dr. before fasting….and even then wear a helmet just in case you totally fall out.

btw…the majority of diabetics are type #2…and the cure is weight loss…but there are few americans with the desire to work at weight loss…when "all they need to do is take medication every day"
