If alcohol lowers blood sugar why don’t Diabetics use it to control high blood sugar?8

Just wondering if they can.

* While moderate amounts of alcohol can cause blood sugar to rise, excess alcohol can actually decrease your blood sugar level — sometimes causing it to drop into dangerous levels.
* Beer and sweet wine contain carbohydrates and may raise blood sugar.
* Alcohol stimulates your appetite, which can cause you to overeat and may affect your blood sugar control.
* Alcohol can interfere with the positive effects of oral diabetes medicines or insulin.
* Alcohol may increase triglyceride levels.
* Alcohol may increase blood pressure.
* Alcohol can cause flushing, nausea, increased heart rate, and slurred speech.

most beers, wines and liquors contain HIGH amounts of sugar and carbs. most doctors (like mine) recommend if your going to drink, make sure your sugar is controlled at a good level and u drink a low carb drink i.e. michelob ultra. there are other beers that are specifically targeted for diabetics also.

Avoid Fats, Meat and Meat Foods to Control Diabetes0

Fats: The excessive use of fats has been linked to development of diabetes. A recent study at the University of Colorado Health Science Center, USA found that intake of an extra 40g of fat day increases the chances of developing diabetes by three times. Fat rich diet, especially one saturated with animal fat, seems to damage the insulin’s effectiveness. Research at the University of Sydney in Australia measured the saturated fatty acids in the muscles cells of older non-diabetic men and the women undergoing surgery and found that higher the presence of saturated fatty acids in the cells, the greater the insulin resistance. On the other hand, higher tissue levels of polyunsaturated fats, particularly fish oil, indicated better insulin activity and lower resistance. Fish oil differs from animal fats in that fish oil contains polyunsaturated fatty acids. One of the fatty acids called omega-3 is especially good for the heartit lowers cholesterol and protects from atherosclerosis. In fact, the researchers also reported that intake of omega-3 fish oil to the subjects effectively overcame their insulin resistance.

In another study, Jennifer Lovejoy, assistance professor at Louisiana State of University, USA, studied and the eating habits and insulin activity among 45 non-diabetic men and women. About half of them were obese and the remaining half of normal weight. In both cases, higher fat consumption increased insulin resistance. This indicates, says Dr. Lovejoy, that even normal individuals who decrease their insulin efficiency and boost their vulnerability to diabetes.

Meat and Meat Foods: One of the most important nutrition guidelines to follow is to “eat less saturated fat.” A quick and simple way to do that is to eliminate meat products. They are high both in saturated fat and cholesterol content. People with diabetes have a greater risk of heart disease earlier in life. The practically useless calories added by saturated fats contribute to above normal body weight and obesity, putting a diabetic at greater of heart disease.

Flesh foods are extremely harmful for diabetes. They increase the toxemic condition underlying the diabetic state and reduce the sugar tolerance. Most diseases of the human body are caused by autointoxication of self-poisoning. The flesh of animals increases the burden on the organs of elimination and overloads and system with animal waste matter and poisons. Chemical analysis has shown that uric acid and other uric poisons contained in the animal body are almost identical to caffeine and nicotine, the poisonous, stimulating principles of coffee, tea and tobacco.

The renowned journal Lancet, reports that a patient of diabetes must be persuaded to consume less animal foods. However, in cold countries where meat and mat products constitute the bulk of the diet, patients of diabetes should limit their intake of animal products to eggs and white meal like fish and poultry. Even their use of should be kept to the minimum; all red meat and red meat products should be eliminated from the diet.

Is Cholesterol The Silent Killer?7

Contrary to popular belief, the liver creates most cholesterol and only a small percentage is acquired through food. However, the more saturated fat a person eats, the more cholesterol his or her body makes.

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that forms a part of each cell in your body. A persons body needs cholesterol for daily functions, such as making hormones, producing healthy cell walls and making vitamin D. It also produces bile acids that help in digestion.

Although this waxy substance helps your body in a number of ways, excess production of cholesterol can also be risky to your body and to your heart. When this happens, the extra cholesterol spills out and circulates into your bloodstream. Be aware that excessive levels of cholesterol in a persons blood can causes clogging of blood vessels, while elevating the risk of stroke and heart disease.

Food Based Cholesterol

Cholesterol comes from animal-based foods like dairy products, eggs and meat. The two types of cholesterol are low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is the bad cholesterol that usually cause the clogging of blood vessels, while HDL is the good cholesterol that is responsible for clearing LDL out of your bloodstream, reducing the risks of heart disease.

The Connection Between Fat and Cholesterol

Saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are the three types of fats found in food. Each type of dietary fat affects a persons blood cholesterol in different ways.

Saturated fats are those found in lamb, pork, beef and other red meat products. Excessive saturated fats in the body can be dangerous to your health because the more saturated fats you eat, the more cholesterol your body produces, which eventually will end up in your bloodstream. Consuming too much saturated fat in the diet is the main cause of excess cholesterol levels in the blood.

Monounsaturated fats are those found in plant oils, such as canola, peanut and olive. Polyunsaturated fats, such as omega-3 fatty acid, can help to slow down blood clot formation and fight heart disease. They are found in fishes and plant oils, such as soybean, corn, safflower and sunflower.

Eating any fat will contribute to weight gain, but in lowering blood cholesterol, substituting saturated fats with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats will help get rid of newly formed cholesterol in the body. For this reason, people with elevated levels of blood cholesterol need to improve their eating habits to ensure that the right kind of fat enters their bodies.

Bad Cholesterol Can Cause Death Later In Life

In our junk food society we are on the brink of complete disaster because of unhealthy eating. More children today are considered obese and this is a direct result of the eating habits taught to them at an early age. Bad cholesterol rates are rising among the youth of today. We are even seeing cases of coronary heart disease in people in their early 30’s. This must be because the foods we are eating today have high levels of LDL cholesterol and saturated fat.

There are two things you should do to prevent the build up of bad cholesterol in your body: Change your diet, and exercise daily.

So what types of food are good for lowering cholesterol levels in the blood? Foods high in antioxidants and fiber are the types of foods you should be looking for. These include fruit and vegetables, whole grains and similar things. Stay away from foods that are considered fatty. Remember to eat mono- and polyunsaturated fats if you eat fat at all. Most fast food restaurants cook their meals using an alarming amount of oil. Yes I know, it does taste great, but so do bananas, grapes and pears. Maybe next time you having a craving for a nice juicy hamburger, why not go down to the local farmer’s market instead and pick out a new exotic fruit that you have never tried before. You might be surprised!

To find out if you have a excessive level of bad cholesterol in your blood, you should make an appointment with your doctor to be tested. It only takes a couple of minutes and you never know, it might save your life!

As a nation, if we are ever going to get out of our fast food, sugar loving mindset, we need to start with our children. Some schools today who are putting in place new healthier menus in their cafeterias. Is there more that could be done though? Children learn from watching adults, so starting to develop good eating habits will be good for you and your children.

Perhaps the ideal place to start is with the parents and guardians who need to set the example for their kids. There are any number of families out there who practically live off French fries and hamburgers. If those families could reduce the number of times they visit a fast food restaurant by one time in a week, then we will go a long way to reduce the rapidly escalating rate of bad cholesterol in the people of our country.

Possible Herbal Treatments For Diabetes3

Many people are turning to herbal remedies for the treatments of diseases. The reason for this is natural herbs have less side effects that traditional prescription medicine. There are vast variety of herbs for every medical condition. Before trying any type of herbal supplement, talk with your doctor. Some herbs may have in interaction with medications that you may be on.

If you start an herbal treatment for your diabetes, monitor you blood sugar levels frequently. There are many types of herbs for the treatment of diabetes. Some work better than others and what works for one person may not work for you. Do your research and talk with a holistic healer or herbalist. This article is going to list a few of the herbs that are used in the treatment of diabetes:

Garlic and onions are best known for their cardiovascular benefits, however a few studies have shown that they can be beneficial in lowering blood glucose levels. Onions can increase the production of insulin in your body, which will lower high glucose levels in your blood.

Bitter melon has long been used for it’s glucose lowering properties. It must be taken in small doses however, because larger doses can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Aloe Vera has been called the healing herb. It is known for it’s ability to treat burns and cuts. But the dried sap and gel taken from the inner portion of the leaves have been effective in treating diabetes.

Asian ginseng is a traditional Chinese medicine. It has long been used in the treatment of diabetes. Asian ginseng can increase the release of insulin from the pancreas and enhance the function of insulin receptors.

Gymnema is an Ayurvedic herb that has been shown to help the pancreas produce insulin. It has been beneficial in lowering blood sugar levels in both type 1 and type 2 diabetics.

Stevia has long been used to lower blood glucose levels. It has had animal studies but has not undergone any human trials.

Cinnamon bark will make fat cells more accessible to insulin. It blocks the formation of dangerous free radicals and increases the conversation rate of glucose to energy.

These are just a few of the herbs used to treat diabetes. You must remember, that just because you can buy it over the counter does not mean that it is completely safe. People with renal disease or liver disease are at a higher risk for complications. If you are on blood thinning medicines be aware that taking ginkgo, ginseng and garlic will increase your risk for bleeding.

Do not take extra doses of the herbs thinking that more is better. It can actually do more harm than good. Monitor your blood sugar frequently and keep your doctor informed of what you are doing. If you find the right herb that works for you, prescription medication for your diabetes may become a thing of the past!

When will there be a cure for type 1 diabetes?4

Ignore the clowns, Molly. If there were actually a definitive "cure", it’s unlikely that they’d be able to keep that secret for very long.

I’m assuming that you realise [realize, if you're one of my American cousins] that not all type 1 diabetics are born with the condition. In fact, it’s comparatively rare to be born with diabetes mellitus.

I doubt, very much, that it’s going to be within the very near future. (I’ve been waiting almost 30 years now since I was told that there was a cure "just around the corner".)

So far, the "cures" that have come about have tended to be short-lived. They tend not to last for very many years. (These include pancreas transplants and islet cell transplants.) However, various ways at changing how islet cell transplantation are still being investigated, and so is stem cell research. Both of these areas look quite promising.

I do hope that you won’t have much longer to wait.

Be well.

My brother has an marijuana addiction and cannot find a solution to his insomnia/back pain. Please help.?6

So my brother came back from college and my parents found out he has been using his medical marijuana license to buy marijuana for his back pains and his insomnia that almost seems incurable on account of the 15+ different kinds of medications he has tried. He knows his drugs very well and does constant research on what is prescribed to him. Everything but marijuana in his case is dangerous or bad to him. For example: He was prescribed ambien, which he read causes nightmares in his dreams. On other medications, common side effects specifically written on the bottle are seizures and increased diabetes, etc. He has tried all kinds of prescribed drugs that the doctor gives him but he claims that none work, and he is afraid of the side effects that most of the medications are said to give. He says he will give up on the marijuana if he can find something that works. He isn’t using it as of now because my parents are not in favor of him using marijuana. They think he is using it just to get high. What can you guys recommend for my brother to help cure his back pains and his insomnia? He constantly cannot fall asleep night after night. My family is falling apart and I want my family to be together again. Please help my brother. Thanks for reading and I hope to get some helpful answers. No hurtful comments please.

He has also tried other natural substances such as melatonin. I am curious to see what effect kava has on him. Anyway please help. Thank you.

What did they think he was doing with his medical marijuana license?
Wow – that is sorry that a family would fall apart over a little marijuana. How’d he do with his grades?
He needs to explain the savings over not having to buy 15+ types of meds, work with his Dr. and do well in school.

If its true that cinnamon lowers blood sugar, then what about cinnamon toast crunch?3

Is Cinnamon Toast Crunch safe for diabetics and hypoglycemics to eat since its made with whole wheat, which is good for you, and since the cinnamon, in theory, could counteract the sugar?

the cinnamon in the cereal wont counteract the sugar…yes, it is true that it has a healthy effect on your bloodsugar, but it does NOT have the power to counteract ANY sugar that you eat. let alone the fact that CTC cereal has TONS of sugar in it. Cinnamon is good for you….but it isnt magic. that would be about as effective as drinking a diet coke to counteract the double cheeseburger you just ate…lol!

Muslims, if pigs are unclean, than why did "Allah" put a cure for diabetes in them?!?11

"Pigs from a remote group of islands could hold the key to treating diabetes, doctors believe." – Daily Telegraph, Experimental diabetes treatment will inject humans with pig cells.

"A company trialling an effective cure for type 1 diabetes has provided a clear safety and tolerance review. The company, based in New Zealand, has found a way to transplant functional pig cells that produce insulin into humans." – Diabetes.co.uk, Pig cells and potential diabetes cure found to be safe for humans.

Muslims, pigs (which you regard as being ‘unclean’) hold a key to cure diabetes according to latest medical research, so why did Allah and Muhammad prohibit pigs for consumption and even medical use (I’ll discuss that below) despite Southern-Asians and Mid-easterns – which many are Muslims -are more exposed to Diabetes compared to people of the west? Surely, the Qu’ran promoting the use of medicines and a God who sees the future would of put this cure in a clean animal such as a lamb or cow than ofcourse a un-clean animal like a pig?

I also read something similar regarding this on a Islamic website and they said it’s still un-permissible to use "haram" stuff in medications. According to one of many quotes from the Hadith they’ve put, Muhammad said, "seek medication, O servants of Allah, for Allah never created an illness without creating a cure for it" and "Allah does not put your cure in that which He has forbidden for you." Again, that raises a question what’s begging an answer if you regard this issue.

So Muslims, how’d you respond to this and what do you think of it O.o?!

Dream I’m a Muslim – I see your point but what you what you’re saying still fails to convince me. So what?! That’s in their nature to roll around in their crap. From my point of view, your Allah – being the creator of everything including pigs – creates something, puts something beneficial in it that CAN cure a serious disease and then says it’s haram… wow… Just wow =|!
Dream I’m a Muslim – I see your point but what you what you’re saying still fails to convince me. So what?! That’s in their nature to roll around in their crap. From my point of view, your Allah – being the creator of everything including pigs – creates something, puts something beneficial in it that CAN cure a serious disease and then brings down a prophet to says it’s haram… wow… Just wow =|!

Shape-shifter – I’m not talking about ancient times; I’m talking about our present times ¬¬!
Um Huda – can’t you see the point in my question? I’m not talking about the consumption of pork; I’m talking about the diabetes cure that has been found in pigs. On what you’re saying, however, I think the consumption of pork taken in moderation is perfectly safe. If there was a hazard because of the consumption of pork, I’m sure there would of had a health hazard regarding pork by now in England since it’s a popular food over here.
Alice – No, I’m not a "moron who’s just hating on Muslims." I have Muslims friends who I get along with who understands my views against Islam and I also understand their views that’s against Christianity. This is just a question that I want to see how Muslims respond to since they believe Pork cannot be beneficial when according to Medical Science it is. That’s all.

Carry on hating Christians if you want to. Actually, if that’s the case, you’re as bad as me and infact more bad than me since you’re criticizing and judging people of some religion rather than criticizing and judging the religion of some people.
Sweet as Strawberry – "Seriously get real. Your stupidity is stunning, I for one know I’m not like you , I’m Better than you!"

"If you want eat Pork, then eat it! I’m glad I don’t eat food that was considered food for the poor a century ago!"

Wow! Somebody seems full of themselves today ¬¬! Anyways, you’re just repeating what "Dream I’m a Muslim" said! I know that it’s still in the process but Medical Scientists and Doctors have been doing this research on pigs for almost a decade (fact!), so their must be something to it since it’s been going on for that long which is acceptable to put into consideration; plus, you being the son of a doctor and a intelligent teen, I’m sure you know that Insulin that’s used for treating people with type 1 diabetes is the one that comes from pigs.

"So their might be Alternative for Muslims and Others who don’t eat pork!"…..so it’s better to use the latter than the former O.o?! Wow…. just wow!
Dream I’m a Muslim – you keep saying that! I’m talking about the cure for diabetes what’s found in pigs; not eating pigs. Looks can be deceiving, so don’t try and like their not.

Too bad Mohammad believed in having sex with little girls but didn’t want anyone eating ham.

Reveal the cures, please…?8

After visiting this category for a little while, I am intrigued. I see a number of patients with supposedly incurable illnesses that I understand some of you know the cures for….PLEASE share the knowledge with me. What is the cure for diabetes type 1 and type 2? Osteoarthritis? Asthma? Emphysema? Multiple Sclerosis?

I have read many, many times so far that there are actual, total, 100% CURES for "almost all" disease…

I can’t think of any reason that you would not want to share these with me. I consider myself an open minded person (heck, I believe in and utilize spinal manipulation, after all) and I would be DELIGHTED to start curing these heretofore chronically ill people. If your cures actually work – I will become a strong advocate from WITHIN the "traditional western medical" comunity!!

It’s a win-win proposition…..so come on – tell me the cures…..
No – I am really NOT being sarcastic. After having seen people on here repeatedly claiming that there are CURES (not preventions, but CURES) – I really and truly want to know. I have seen the Kevin Trudeau infomercial but confess I have not read his Miracle Cure book… He clearly and unambiguously states that there are CURES for these things and many others.

Mr Nair – I am well aware of the traditional treatments for these things as I am a physician.

Unlike my MD counterparts – I utilize methods (manioulation) that many of THEM sneer at – so I am very open to "alternatives".

I am extending a hand from the "traditional world" to the "alternative one" – I am hoping for meaningful answers – not new age mumbo-jumbo,
noabuse – so, in other words – you have absolutely nothing constructive to add?
Know the Cause – you always sound very angry….Here is your chance to let the secret out that you claim "Big Pharma" is supressing….HERE’S YOUR CHANCE………tell me a cure for any of those things…….I don’t understand why any of you people won’t share this info that you seem so interested in getting to the masses….it just doesn’t make any sense to me.
noabuse – like I said – nothing constructive to add. I often wonder about people who, instead of building their OWN case – concentrates on tearing down another’s.

I am sorry that you are not willing to share your knowledge with me.
Know the Cause: "…I am living proof that natural cures are out there…"

Please share your natural cure with us…

Good question!

This truly is a win-win situation. If no one answers then we will know they don’t work. If someone, especially with detail, answers then [seemingly] we got a cure!

I am a believer in holistic medicines (mind you haters) and I really think the best solution is PREVENTION. Practing rather HEALTH and preparing will be able to stop it all. Like the tridosha practice in Ayurveda and the 3 treasures in Taoism, we need to take care of ourselves from the start. Cure is prevention. People don’t take care of themselves and drive themselves to these chronic health problems.

The thing about conventional medicine is that it can rid of long standing health problems that alternative medicine cannot. The alternative medicine doesn’t focus on symptoms where it is right in some cases. I don’t know why it wouldn’t go there…

gangadharan nair- The questionstionare asked for cures not treatments…

Rhys M- Well I think you must have done something to upset the Qi of your body. Either not taking care of yourself or not taking care of yourself properly. A person needs to make sure their Qi as reflected in their Aura is free-flowing.

what are the symptoms, cures, and treatments for diabetes?5

diabetes type 2, or 1 what ever?

What Is It?
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition in which the body cannot successfully convert sugar into energy for tissue and organ cells. A person with diabetes will have abnormally high levels of blood sugar, especially after consuming starchy foods like rice, potatoes, and bread. Diabetes can affect both men and women at any age. Even children can develop cases of diabetes. There are three types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and type 3.

Types
Type 1 diabetes occurs as a result of an autoimmune condition. The pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin, and as a result, glucose builds up in the bloodstream. It is unknown what causes type 1 diabetes.

Genetics, viruses, and autoimmune conditions can cause type 1 diabetes to occur. With type 2 diabetes, a person’s fat, liver, and muscle tissue do not respond properly to insulin. As a result, the pancreas produces more and more insulin while sugar builds up in the blood at the same time. Type 2 diabetes is related to genetics, diet, exercise, and obesity. Type 3 diabetes occurs when the brain signals insulin production to stop, resulting in damage to the brain cells and central nervous system.

Symptoms & Warning Signs
The most common symptoms are frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased fluid intake. Other symptoms include blurred vision, feelings of irritability, severe fatigue, unexpected weight loss, feelings of extreme hunger, irritation of the skin in the genital area, and slower healing of superficial wounds. Weight loss tends to be seen most commonly with Type 1 diabetes. Unlike type 1 diabetes, the symptoms for type 2 diabetes develop very slowly.

Causes & Risk Factors
The exact cause of diabetes is unclear, but several risk factors are evident. People are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes if they eat a diet that is high in fat, are overweight, or have a family history of diabetes. Age is also a risk factor.

Prevention & Treatment
Patients can prevent type 2 diabetes by following a well balanced diet and by maintaining a regular exercise routine. Patients of type 1 diabetes may need to take insulin injections. Treatment may also be necessary for complications including heart problems, kidney failure, pancreas problems, and infections.

Tests & Diagnosis
A urinalysis is the first level of testing and can show glucose levels in addition to how fat is broken down. Blood glucose tests (fasting and non-fasting) can provide a more detailed breakdown of whether the person has diabetes.

There are so far no cures for diabetes.
