Facts About Diabetes and Diet!4

Most diabetics already know that there is some confusion concerning the most appropriate diet for the diabetic. They also know there is no single dietary program that fits all people.

This problem only gets worse as there is conflicting dietary advice from so-called experts in this field. As well, the media often reports incomplete information from medical papers, which only adds to the confusion.

It is true that refined white sugar and products containing it are not helpful for the diabetic because of the instantaneous absorption of this substance into the blood as glucose. But there is more to a diet than just sugar considerations.

Some claims have been made of type 2 diabetes being cured through diet alone. The diabetic associations worldwide, however, are resolute that no cure for diabetes exists today. There is no diet to prevent type 2 diabetes!

Pritikin Diet

Christian Roberts of the University of California undertook research into diet and diabetes and found that in 50% of those who followed a diet based on Pritikin principles, the type 2 diabetes symptoms were reversed. Managing type 2 diabetes with a low carb diet could work very well.

The regime for this study had participants exercising for one hour every day. They were also given a diet that was based on vegetables and whole grains with a only little animal protein eaten.

Another small study in the USA concluded that high fibre diets assisted in keeping blood glucose levels low.

Low Fat, Carbohydrate-based Diet

There is controversy over the dietary recommendations being offered by the diabetic associations both in the UK and the US. Their current advice is for diabetics to follow a low fat, carbohydrate-based diet despite what appears to be fairly compelling evidence to the contrary.

The problem in deciding what represents a safe diet, whether for diabetics or not, is in knowing which research to trust. Most research has an agenda. It may be that the research is being sponsored by a drug company to prove the benefits of a particular drug treatment. It may be that the research is undertaken by someone who is simply setting out to prove a theory. There is too little research that is truly independent and undertaken without prejudice to the outcome.

Atkins-type Diet

It has been recommended that an Atkins-type diet, high in fat and protein and low in carbohydrate, is the most suitable for a diabetic. It would certainly seem logical that restricting carbohydrates would help to prevent elevated glucose levels in the blood stream. There could well be consistency between low blood sugar and the Atkins diet. Proponents of the Atkins diet claim that cholesterol levels are not adversely affected by this diet regime. Of course there are contrary views.

Diabetics should understand that each person has his own individual metabolism and physiology. What may be a healthy diet for one person might very well be life threatening for another. Diets for type 1 diabetes should never me mixed with diet plans for type 2 diabetes.

A diet centered around healthy proteins such as white meat and fish, vegetables, natural carbohydrates, salads and fruit as well as monounsaturated fat supplemented by the essential fatty acids is a good starting point. Once this is established there is no reason why, under controlled conditions, individuals should not try introducing whole grains to see what effect they have on their glucose levels. In this way diabetics can evaluate for themselves what represents a healthy diet.

5 Great Ways To Lower Blood Pressure Using 1 Great Fruit3

Have you had your lycopene today? If you ate a green salad with fresh chopped tomatoes, then you not only got a healthy dose of this powerful antioxidant, but you have also taken significant action toward lowering your blood pressure. A recent double-blind study conducted in Israel has confirmed what hearth-healthy Italians have enjoyed for centuries – tomatoes (and tomato sauce) lower blood pressure and the risk of heart disease.

Dr. Esther Paran, head of the hypertension division of Soroka Medical Center, led up the Israeli study. It involved patients who were already being treated for hypertension, but were not responding well to the medications. Dr. Paran had patients take a supplement of tomato extract. The results were a significant drop in blood pressure after just four weeks.

Tomatoes are so effective at lowering blood pressure because they contain lycopene. This potent antioxidant is even the focus of some hybrid tomatoes grown by the Israeli company, Lycomato, in order to have higher concentrations of lycopene in each piece of fruit. Other antioxidants found in tomatoes make this one super-food in the prevention of heart disease. It can even help keep LDL cholesterol from oxidizing which makes it stick to the arteries and narrow the passage way causing blood pressure to increase.

Even during the peak growing season it can be difficult to consume four whole tomatoes each day, which is the recommended amount for having a positive impact on blood pressure. Here are some ways to get the benefits of tomatoes without having to eat them straight off the vine.

1. Make Chili. Using tomato puree, which is a concentrated form of tomatoes, as the base for your chili utilizes the antioxidants without the bulk of a whole tomato. Add some ultra-lean and high protein ground bison and kidney beans with minced garlic and onions, and cayenne pepper and you have a heart-healthy main course and a full day’s allowance of tomato.

2. Since using olive oil with the tomatoes enhances the curative quality, make your pasta sauce red with tomatoes, tomato paste and olive oil to sauté the garlic and onion. Tomato paste used in making sauce contains more than 10 times the nutrients of a single tomato.

3. Have a fresh salad as a side dish to either of these entrees and cut one whole tomato on top. You’ll get one-quarter of you tomato intake right there.

4. Drink tomato juice. It is better to make your own fresh juice so that you can control the sodium. Store bought juices can be high in sugar and sodium-based preservatives. If you have a juicer, you can make some incredible veggie juices to suit your own tastes by adding carrots, celery and some low-sodium seasonings.

5. Take a tomato supplement. If you just can’t stomach tomatoes, then a 200 mg supplement provides the equivalent of more than the recommended four tomatoes.

Adding tomatoes to your diet can reduce systolic blood pressure by 10 points and diastolic pressure by 4 points as was evident in the Israel study. Whatever way you slice it, tomatoes will keep strengthen your immune system and lower blood pressure.

Dogs, Cats, And Natural Herbal Remedies6

Pets are affected by today’s high pollution, poor nutrition, and growing causes for excessive stress, and are becoming more vulnerable to chronic disease and bad health.

Since their ancient origins, natural herbal remedies are making new strides every day, with botanicals (plants) either singularly or in compounds, and sometimes animal by-products that improve health, appearance, attitude, and performance of pets.

People are starting to realize the value of using natural herbal products to prevent, improve, or treat dog, cat and other pet diseases and conditions.

Here is a sample cross section of the many varied conditions that can be helped:

Aggression in Pets
Aggressive behavior in dogs can include biting, barking, snarling, snapping and raised fur along the back of the neck and the ridge of the spine. Aggression in cats can include scratching, biting, excessive yowling, and lunging, hissing, spitting and destructive behavior.

Anxiety-Stress in Pets
A trip to the vet, thunderstorms, small children, an abusive situation, change of owner, hair dryers, change of house, the addition of another pet — are a few of the situations that can cause heightened levels of anxiety in your pet.

Cleanse and Disinfect Pet Wounds
Products that are formulated to effectively cleanse, disinfect and begin the healing process, while also providing soothing and analgesic relief for pets with a range of skin conditions like wounds, bites, abrasions, paw injuries, etc.

Diabetes in Pets
Control and balance blood sugar levels and improve insulin production and bio-availability. Assist in the treatment of diabetes-related conditions like circulation problems, eye disease and wound healing.

Increase milk production
A safe and natural combination of herbal ingredients for optimizing colostrum and milk production in nursing pets, as well as providing a natural tonic for the nursing female dog or cat.

Fur balls in cats
Improve digestive functioning, and keep bowels regular and prevent constipation and throwing up associated with fur ball obstruction.

Skin and Coat
Whether a chronic or acute skin condition or just a bit of a help after a bout of illness, this product will quickly help to restore shine and health, as well as healing most chronic and acute skin conditions.

This is just a tiny number of the various conditions that can be helped by the use of natural herbal remedies with very favorable results, and little or no adverse effects on the dog, cat, or other pet.

Check it out and see if you can enhance a pet’s health, appearance, attitude, and performance.

Okay, Everyone PLZ take this seriously.?13

Me and a Group of people are trying to put on a charity concert in Kentucky. And we have taken polls and the bands people want to get with in these 2-3 concerts are: The Jonas Brothers, Jordan Pruitt, Pushplay, Vanessa Hudgens, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Billy Ray Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Flyleaf, and Demi and Dallas Lovato. I have a few connections to Pushplay, but I need connections to Hollywood Records to make this happen.

Any Ideas on how to get ahold of Hollywood Records, Pushplay, Taylor Swift or Vanessa Hudgens?

It would be greatly appriciated.

All the money raised goes to an Environmental Charity and a Cure for type 1 diabetes charity. Please Help.
i know that nick has diabetes, I just asked mandy(jonas bff) about this whole thing and she said that Jordan Pruitt, Pushplay, and especially the Jonas Brothers may be interested! But this isn’t for MY charity (i dont have one) this is to donate to already excisting charities, and i have asked a few, and they are interested!!!

But I know I will not get all of these bands, but if I get the Jonas Brothers or Pushplay, I am sure we can raise a lot!

You have to call their production companies, agents or bookers. If you go to their official websites or look on the CD jackets you’ll see small print on that.

Blessings on your concert idea.

I Need Help Revising Part Of My Speech. Could Anyone Help Correct It For Me??2

This doesn’t mean that caffeine is completely bad for you, it all depends on if you take in the right amount. The good side of caffeine is that it helps people to become more alert, making it useful to stay awake, and reduce fatigue. Besides giving us the energy to wake up early in the morning, it also makes us think faster, improves our physical performance, treats headaches, increases the effects of some medications, improves short-term memory, and speeds up reaction time. In a 2003 study published in the Journal of Pain, it states that
you should take caffeine one hour before exercise in order to reduce muscle soreness. Caffeine may also help to prevent Parkinson’s disease, helps you to make better decisions, elevate your mood, cure skin cancer (in mice), help prevent type 2 diabetes, and liver disease, such as liver cancer.

Therefore, the next time you pick up a cup of coffee or any other caffeinated products, you will be more aware and knowledgeable about what you put in your body.

I learned this a long time ago: teachers don’t necessarily like when students use the word YOU. Think of your audience. You are speaking to anyone interested about caffiene, right? So narrow it down to either saying "it all depends on if one takes the right amount…. or an individual, and so forth. It’s not much, but I hope this helped. Help me with mine now?

Estimated time for a cure for type 1 (juvinal) diabetes?2

Im scared i might have it but im not sure and i just want to know the estimated time and mabe other facts, Im 14 and my dad has this and ive been peeing all the time lately like every 15 minnutes and 3 times a night but im not thirsty or tired or any other symptoms. Exept this morning i vomited this weird green and black substance that looked like coffee grounds but i thiks all that is bc of the 1200 mg of ibuprofen i take a day bc ive been to the doc and he found no sugar in my urine so he checked my prostate and he thought it was inflamed so he gave me ibuprofen. But please give me an estimated time on the cure based on how research is going. Thanks :) im realy scared:(

Well my little brother was diagnoses with type one. He had the same symptoms, he kept peeing like every 15-30 min. This is because the body is trying to get rid of blood sugar. He was never thirsty, or hungry. When we went to a neighbor who was a nurse, she said stick out your tongue, so he did, and he had a white "film" on his tongue. Then our neighbor said to take him to the ER. My little brother had these symptoms from about a week until he went to the hospital. His crab count was 800, 700 more than needed. If I were you, go to the ER, and tell them all of your symptoms, and ask about diabetes. Sadly, there is no cure for type one Diabetes yet. But if you do have type one, and you do not seek medical care soon, you could go into a diabetic coma, this is when your body has to high of levels of carbs, so you go into a coma. the only way to be revived is by a glucagun. It is this big shot to bring down carb levels fast. So go to the ER asap. and until you get there, drink LOTS of water, this brings down carb levels, and eat low carb items. Also check your carb count by using your dad’s meter, he should know how to do that.

What do you think of my letter to friends and family asking for jdrf donations?3

Dear Friends and Family,

On Saturday, October 20th, I will be walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with my church youth group, friends and family. As you may know I have juvenile diabetes and I am insulin dependant. As a result my life is far from normal. My daily routine is on a constant schedule in order to stay healthy. I check my blood sugar 5 to 8 times a day and I’m constantly pumping insulin through my pump site which I change every 2-3 days. This equates to approximately 2,920 finger sticks and 183 pump site changes every year. Since I have been diagnosed, I have poked my finger over 9,592,200 times, taken 7,300 shots, and inserted insulin pump sites 1,278 times. And this will continue for the rest of my life unless a cure is found.

I am the only one in my family with type 1 diabetes. Most people don’t know that it can strike any family and that you can never “grow out of it”. I will be insulin dependant for life. Every day I put great effort into doing things I do not want to do and hoping I do not develop the complications associated with diabetes. You see, the longer I have diabetes the more likely I am to develop complications such as kidney disease, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and nerve damage leading to amputation. Even if I do everything I am supposed to, I can still develop these complications. A cure is the only way out.

My team has come together to set a goal of $1,000 and we would like to ask for your support by sending a tax-deductible contribution to us that we can submit to JDRF on that day. Please help me and the millions of other kids fight diabetes and find a cure.

JDRF gives more resources to diabetes research than any nonprofit, nongovernmental organization in the world. Over 80% of every dollar raised by JDRF is channeled directly into research efforts. Since 1970, they have provided over $900 million to diabetes research.

Please support us by making your check payable to “JDRF” and mail it to my address by October 19th. Thank you for your donations and words of support. We are very grateful!!!

I wish I had more thumbs so I could put them all up. It was compelling, emotive and tax deductible

I am sending mental spring for your legs
Good Luck (c;

Do you think it’s diabetes?6

I am 10 years old. I’m a girl. I am 90 pounds. Anyway, in January (early), two hours after eating chocolate pudding, my random finger prick thingie was 124. I do have a fruity (strawberry-banana) taste in my mouth, weakness, and i’ve been getting alot of fevers. I HATE going to the doctor, and i’m deathly afraid of needles. I have perfect vision, and the only foot infection was when I picked my toenail and got an infection, which was like 4 years ago, and got cured quickly. I’m afraid of amputation. What should I do? My mom is 100% posotive I don’t have it. I pee every 4-6 hours. On my mom’s side, 4 or 5 people have/had diabetes (type 2) and on my dad’s side, 2-3 (type 2). My cousin’s friend, when she was diagnosed, had 600. What could MY symptoms be, besides diabetes? I’m not underweight, i’m a stong (muscular armed) 10 year old, who is 90 pounds. I am also 4′10. Remember, 10 points for best answer. Thanks
* I haven’t brushed my teeth in like 3 days…oops…and I have a sore throat, and my mom said that’s probably why I have the weird fruit taste. It dosen’t taste that sweet, it tasted like a rotten strawberry banana taste! No one in our family has/had type 1.
*I DID, like 5 minutes ago, which developed last night, has a fruity taste in my mouth…that just went away!!
* I have no feet problems, except I do have a big space between my big toe and second toe. But, that’s how I was born. It’s on both feet. My feet always smell bad..lol…but we DO sweat! I polish my toes like most girls do, and I keep my feet clean.

type 1 diabetes is classified by increased thirst, increased hunger, and increased urination. Hunny you would be peeing at least 2-3 liters a day. the approximately 2-3 quarts. 124 is a very normal blood sugar, nothing wrong with that at all. type 2 diabetes, which i think you are much to thin to have, has basically the same 3 symptoms as type 1. type 1 you lose weight even though you are increasing the amount of food you are eating. i don’t think there is anything wrong with you. eat healthy and exercise and you probably will never have to worry about diabetes.
